November 15, 2021- Memphis, TN- Glankler Brown member Robert D. Meyers recently presented Lt. John Mitchell with the Exchange Club of Memphis’ Firefighter of the Year Award 2021 and Deputies C. Overly and G. Jeffries with Law Enforcement Officers of the Year 2021.
Lt. Mitchell was selected for his dedication and public service as a member of the Shelby County Fire Department and for establishing and operating a non-profit organization, Blessed Men of God, that works tirelessly to provide food, clothing and necessities to the less fortunate population in the Shelby County area. The organization’s services include a food box program, emergency food program, spiritual guidance and providing opportunities for youths with “self-sufficiency” activities.
Deputies Overly and Jeffries were selected for their quick actions and dedication to saving lives after responding to a motor vehicle crash involving a submerged vehicle. Both deputies worked tirelessly, fighting the force of water pressure and chest-high submersion, to save the driver of the submerged car and bring him to safer grounds.
The Exchange Club is the oldest service organization in the country with more than 650 local chapters across the United States and Puerto Rico. Exchange Club members donate their time and talent to service programs and activities designed to benefit their local youths, community and country. Robert Meyers established the program honoring the top local firefighters and law enforcement officers of 2021.
