Residency requirement in Memphis mayor’s race could affect three candidates
The Feb. 28 opinion was written by Memphis attorney Robert Meyers of Glankler Brown, who served as the Shelby County Election Commission’s chairman from 2009 to 2019.
In his opinion, Meyers wrote that Memphis voters had not eliminated the five-year residency requirement – a fact that had been argued by Allan Wade, a private attorney who represents the Memphis City Council and others, in a letter he wrote this past fall.
