MEMPHIS, TN – March 20, 2024- The University of Memphis’s Duberstein Bankruptcy Law Mock Trial Team led by Head Coach and Glankler Brown Associate Eliza A. Jones recently placed third of 52 teams at the Annual Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition held at St. Johns University School of Law.

Mock Trial members Elizabeth Hunt and Tarik Terry competed in a total of seven rounds, beating 51 other teams and over 100 competitors, in a competition judged by current and former district court judges that had written opinions on the issues that the students were arguing. The competition began with three preliminary rounds, with Hunt and Terry advancing to the octo-finals and a quarter final round.

“The questions were tough, but Elizabeth and Tarik handled themselves with grace and poise- the round was fantastic,” said Ms. Jones.

Prior to joining Glankler Brown, Ms. Jones worked as a law clerk to Judge Ross Dyer at the Tennessee Criminal Court of Appeals and as law clerk to Judge Valerie Smith at Shelby County Circuit Court, where she researched and composed memoranda on issues involving but not limited to child custody, divorce, privacy expert witnesses, HIPAA, and complex legal issues in criminal appeals.

She graduated from University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law where she served as an Associate Justice of the Moot Court Board, on the staff of the Memphis Law Review, as Executive Director of the Student Bar Association, as Domestic Violence Track Leader with the Public Action Law Society and as In-School Liaison with the Association of Women Attorneys. Ms. Jones received the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award for the Memphis Law Class of 2020 and was also a member of the National Moot Court Team and the American Bar Association Moot Court Team. During her time on the ABA Team, Ms. Jones won a Top Oral Advocate Award and Best Brief Award. She wrote Nail in the Coffin: The Mandatory Arbitration Epidemic on Employee Rights, which is published in Volume 50 of the Memphis Law Review.

Ms. Jones also worked as a Creative Intern at Chaotic Good Studios in Los Angeles, where she worked on a team drafting content for potential scripts, story lines, comic books, and internet media.

She concentrates her practice in the areas of family law and litigation.
